Oakland Forever
Written by Troy Ewers
For the early 2000s for Warriors fans things weren’t easy but they were always entertaining. In 2007 when the “We Believe” Warriors went to the NBA playoffs as the 8th Seed and won their first round series vs the 1st Seeded Dallas Mavericks, everything about that team has become an iconic part of Warriors and Bay Area history.
Players like Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson are forever legends because of that season, the arena became the most exciting place to watch a basketball game, and the Orange and Blue colorway on the jerseys became the color pallet that defined a team and city’s era. Since the “We Believe” year in 2007, the Golden State Warriors have gone through one hell of a arc. They’ve rebranded with new colorways and logos referencing the Warriors teams from the 70s-90s. Once just believed to be playoff contenders, the Warriors are now a dynasty that changed the whole league’s style of play, but all this change isn’t the most positive. In 2019 the Warriors played their final game in Oakland at the Oracle Arena and christened that arena with the best parting gift... wearing the classic White, Orange, and Blue jerseys made famous in the “We Believe” era. This send off was a beautiful way to celebrate the ending of a chapter for the history books, now the Warriors new chapter exists in the Chase Center San Francisco and to some fans the “culture” of the Golden State Warriors is gone.
This season that culture seems to be restored with not only Steph Curry back from injury and donning a new jersey that is directly representing the culture some fans think is gone. The “Oakland Forever'' jersey has the classic Orange and Blue colorway, it has the classic font, it feels like the mascot “Thunder” is going to come back. The biggest difference is it says “Oakland” across the chest which is paying homage and thanking the home of the classic moments one team and one city had together. The Warriors are more than just a professional basketball team, they’re a symbol of the Bay Area’s growth over the last 20 years.
The “Oakland Forever” jerseys are for fans who went to Oracle when Jason Richardson was the star of the team and stayed true all the way to when the Warriors became champions.
